MPIA Requests for Other Waldorf Area Records

Beyond police and court records, many other government records for the Waldorf area can be requested under Maryland's Public Information Act (MPIA). This includes county agency emails, meeting minutes, inspection records, and planning documents, among others.

For MPIA requests directed at the Sheriff's Office, use the NextRequest portal or mail your request to the Records Section. For requests involving Charles County government departments other than the Sheriff, contact the relevant department directly or write to the Charles County Attorney's Office at 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, MD 20646.

Your MPIA request should clearly state it is an MPIA request and include your full name, mailing address, and daytime phone number. Describe the records you need with as much detail as you can -- date ranges, department names, document types, and any relevant case or file numbers. Agencies have 30 days to respond, though many departments reply sooner. If a response will take longer, they must notify you in writing with an estimated date.

Records that are fully exempt include personal medical information, personnel files, certain investigatory law enforcement records, and other categories protected by state law. If only part of a record is exempt, the agency must release the non-exempt portions. You can appeal a denial within 30 days to the circuit court in Charles County.
